How to choose

Five questions that narrow the field quickly, whichever models you compare.

Check compatibility first

Some smartwatches work fully only with one phone platform. Confirm that notifications, apps and health data sync with the phone you use.

Decide between screen and battery

Bright AMOLED screens look sharper but usually need charging more often. Transflective and memory-in-pixel screens are dimmer indoors but can last far longer.

Match GPS to your training

Built-in GPS lets you leave the phone at home. Dual-band GPS tends to track more reliably near tall buildings and trees; connected GPS borrows the phone’s location.

Choose the health features you will use

Heart rate tracking is standard. ECG, blood oxygen and sleep scoring vary by model and region, and are wellness tools, not medical devices unless certified.

Get the size and strap right

A lighter case and a breathable strap matter more for sleep tracking and workouts than an extra feature you rarely open.

How these picks were made

This page demonstrates a format. The five watches are sample products with illustrative specifications and prices, and the picks follow directly from that sample data. In a live comparison, specifications would be verified with manufacturers and prices would come from real, dated retailer offers.
